Frequently asked questions
Is income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free in 2026-27?
Under the new regime, yes: the rebate cancels tax on taxable income up to ₹12 lakh, and with the ₹75,000 standard deduction a salaried person pays nothing on a salary up to ₹12.75 lakh. Just above that, marginal relief caps the tax at the income above ₹12 lakh.
What are the new regime tax slabs?
Nil up to ₹4 lakh, 5% from ₹4–8 lakh, 10% from ₹8–12 lakh, 15% from ₹12–16 lakh, 20% from ₹16–20 lakh, 25% from ₹20–24 lakh and 30% above ₹24 lakh, plus 4% cess.
New or old regime — which is better?
It depends on your deductions. The old regime keeps 80C, 80D, HRA and home-loan interest but has higher rates; the new regime has lower rates and a ₹75,000 standard deduction but almost no other deductions. Enter your deductions above to compare.
How much tax on a ₹15 lakh salary?
₹97,500 under the new regime (6.5% of the salary), including cess.
