Frequently asked questions
How many flags are there in the world?
This page shows 216 flags — one for each country and territory with World Bank population data and a widely used flag design. The UN has 193 member states; many territories (such as Hong Kong, Puerto Rico or Greenland) also have their own flags.
Which flag is not rectangular?
Nepal’s flag, made of two stacked pennants, is the only non-rectangular national flag. Here every flag is drawn in the same 4:3 frame so they can be compared side by side.
Can I use these flag images?
The images come from the open-source flag-icons project (MIT License). National flags themselves are generally free to depict, though some countries regulate their commercial use.
